Dunces with Discs

Like others during the quarantine, a lot of us tried a new hobby outside, and for us, it was Disc Golf. It was a great way to stay active, and we still love it! Dunces with Discs is a video series providing Disc Golf content, but also a tale of our journey as we aim to get better. In this series, you'll find Disc Reviews, Disc Comparisons, Form videos, and ridiculous challenges of all kinds. Check out both if you're into the sport!

Our inaugural video in the series shows a bit about where we were at after about 3-5 months of playing in a simple Doubles challenge with Shot Cancels put in

This is our first Disc Review, featuring a Kickstarter gone viral - Loft Disc's Hydrogen putters. Check out the video to see how they fly!

For the next Challenge video, we do a Mixed Bag Challenge, where we're allowed to put in 3 discs each, but the card will tell which we have to use, and not all cards lead to discs...

In our latest Disc Review, we have SweetHart, who's always used P2s, check out the new Prototype P2s to see how similar they are to the Sky God and Glow C-Line P2s

Where it's Been, and where it's Going

Like a lot of people during the Covid-19 quarantine, a lot of our creative contributors didn't get to see each other to do any filming, any comedy, any writing, or any game nights, which we've loved over the past few years, so we had to find something we could do. We all wanted to get back outside and find some type of exercise to recharge our batteries, and Disc Golf seemed to be a perfect idea! The sport was exploding during the quarantine, so we kept hearing people talk about starting, and thought...why not? So, we borrowed some discs and went out to a local course to see what Disc Golf was all about.

A couple things happened from that first trip out. First, we STUNK. I mean, I'm talking full garbage can in a hot summer day kind of stink. The kind of stink that can peel wallpaper, and it didn't make sense, because a couple of us had played before, and a couple had played Ultimate Frisbee before, so how could we be so bad? As we quickly found out, the throwing and techniques were wildly different, so we vowed to get better. The 2nd thing to happen was that we fell in love with the sport, because even though we were trash, it was outside, it was active, and it was something we could all get better at.

After a few weeks, our throws were going more than 200 feet, which was a triumph we felt way more proud of than we should have. To help us keep track of our distance, we measured the distance between a sidewalk we would throw from and the road, and it was about 260 feet. The first time we hit the road, you could've sworn we just hit the lottery because of how we celebrated! But that was quite a few months, rounds, and tournaments ago.

To get better, we remember going to YouTube and watching a few videos that broke down form, and gave suggestions on how to get better. For some of us, it sort of made sense, but we could all agree on one thing - There wasn't enough Beginner-Intermediate friendly content in the Disc Golf world, and constantly comparing ourselves to pros wasn't helping us get better at all. From this realization, we had 2 ideas come to fruition. First, we had the idea for Dunces with Discs, which would not only explore the creative fun you can have with Disc Golf with ridiculous challenges, but it would also provide content for that Beginner-Intermediate range of players to help take their game to the next level. The 2nd was a Disc Golf store, so that locals could shop in-person and explore more brands than just Discraft, Discmania, Innova, MVP & Axiom. The vision was to have a lot of options in a lot of different plastics for people to try, so you can constantly be discovering new discs, new forms, new techniques, and constantly getting better! The store is called Yeet Street Discs, and you can follow the button below to visit it.

Now, we're doing some tournaments, playing rounds on a weekly basis, and we've gotten quite a bit farther than that original 260 foot goal we used to have. It's only been about a year since we started playing, but it's been an exceptionally fun year, and one of many to come. We shot a few more videos early on, but decided not to post them, because the form was so bad, we couldn't watch without cringing! So we held off, got a little better, formed more shots, and now we're at a point where we can provide more content without skimping on quality. No, we're not pros, and we're not going to aspire to be professionals, but we're very good at sharing what we've learned to others, and helping people take the next step. Just as we hope you enjoyed this journey, we hope you join us in advancing our journey by Watching the videos, Commenting on what you like and what you'd like to see in the future, Liking videos that helped you, and Sharing videos that you find value in to others who would enjoy that value. Whether it's a challenge video that gives you a laugh or a Disc Review video to help you see a disc before you buy it, we're hoping to help add content to the sport we've thoroughly enjoyed.

If you're looking for a disc you can't find, use the button below and fill out the form to let us know! We'd love to get in touch with you regarding comparisons, or use our store/connections to get you that disc sooner rather than later!
